Alan Ward has completed the sculpture of the Ribston Pippin apple. See the photograph below.
Alan will commence work on the next fruit sculpture in January 2024. This will be another apple – Golden Spire. Golden Spire was discovered in Lancashire in the 1850s. Initially it was grown as an early cooking apple. Its primary use, however, has been as a cider apple grown in the West Country with the alternative name of Tom Matthews. The photograph below shows two blocks of Portland stone in Alan Ward’s studio, one of which will be used for the Golden Spire sculpture. The completed Ribston Pippin is behind.
