There has been plenty of progress since the previous post. Alan Ward has completed another sculpture – Improved Fertility pear. The name Improved Fertility derives from the fact that the variety is a natural mutation of another pear called Fertility. The improvement is that Improved Fertility is self-fertile whereas Fertility is self-sterile. Alan has now started work on the next sculpture – Lord Derby apple. Lord Derby is a cooking apple first raised in Cheshire in 1862. Click here for a plan of The Tasting Garden to see where the Improved Fertility pear and Lord Derby apple sculptures will go.
