There has been plenty of progress since the previous post.
Alan Ward has completed another sculpture – Improved Fertility pear. The name Improved Fertility derives from the fact that the variety is a natural mutation of another pear called Fertility. The improvement is that Improved Fertility is self-fertile whereas Fertility is self-sterile. Alan has now started work on the next sculpture – Lord Derby apple. Lord Derby is a cooking apple first raised in Cheshire in 1862. Click here for a plan of The Tasting Garden to see where the Improved Fertility pear and Lord Derby apple sculptures will go. Below are three photos taken in Alan Ward’s studio in Lancaster Castle. The first photo is of the four sculptures he has completed so far this year:
The second and third photos show the Lord Derby sculpture currently in progress. Comments are closed.
