Nature Notes for August and September 2023

​Insects

• Cinnabar moth caterpillars on the ragwort, bees enjoyed the chives, harlequin ladybirds were all around the gardens. The highlights were visits from a female Southern Hawker dragonfly and a Green Shield bug.
• Red Admirals enjoyed the fallen pears and the buddleia.

September flowers and fruits

• The sedum spectabile “Autumn Joy” in the Bee and Butterfly border started making a wonderful display.
• Crimson flag lilies, Japanese anemones, Rudbeckia and Michaelmas daisies (asters) all provided autumn colour to The Storey Gardens.
• Wild strawberries, Duke of Devonshire and Sunset apples, and Hessle pears.
