Gardening Work during October, November and December 2023

We have been somewhat behind in posting our gardening activity during the last three months of 2023.  Read below what we have been up to between October and December.

• Completing the wall wiring and mulching the espalier apple trees.
• Reorganising the composting area. Bagging up leaf mould, transferring partially rotted leaves to builders sacks and removing the wire leaf mould cages.
• Moving the herbs further along the bed in the Copper Beech Garden to provide space for a new rubbish bin.
• Collecting up copper beech leaves for leaf mould and clearing paths for Light up Lancaster.
• Weeding and cutting back plants and shrubs in The Storey Gardens and the Hollygon, including sweeping the pavement.
• Planting out new young plants and tulip bulbs.
• LCC grounds maintenance team cut down three diseased cherry trees in The Tasting Garden, Bradbourne Black, Stella and Napoleon Bigarreau. FOSG volunteers assisted with clearing up.  These trees will be replaced.
• Garden tour for Department of Work and Pensions.
• Cleared grass and weeds from The Tasting Garden path edges in preparation for treatment of paths with a weed flame gun by a trained expert.
