The apple and pear trees produced an abundance of fruit which was thinned out at the end of June.
A regular supply of chives, sorrel and mint from the gardens has been provided to the Printroom café in The Storey and flower arrangements for The Storey Reception and Printroom café. As always there has been plenty of weeding to do in the borders, with particular focus on speedwell, sycamore saplings, cleavers and enchanter's nightshade. Weeding around fruit trees continues, cutting long grass and grass from around the edges of the borders with shears. The edges of the paths around the wildflower areas, pathways around the borders and areas for visitors to picnic have been mown regularly by volunteers. An area of vigorously growing Geranium phaeum next to the Victoria plum tree was cut before it seeded all over the garden. Flowers in the borders have been deadheaded, lonicera, roses and sycamore shoots cut back. Beans and mangetout have been planted out and are growing well. The plant sale area is constantly being supplied with plants from the gardens some of which have been grown from cuttings. Wildlife sightings and a list of some of the plants in flower during May and June are reported in a separate post on the Nature blog, click here for the details. Below is a photo gallery of some of the work. Click on an image to enlarge. Comments are closed.
