Gardening Work during January and February 2025

This is what we achieved in the Storey Gardens during January and February 2025:

• All the tall trees in The Storey Gardens remained intact during the January storms, only small branches and twigs littered the gardens.  Six volunteers cleared the gardens on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
• Pruning and training the Polar Berry bush
• Weeding in the borders and the stone edging in the soft fruit area
• Cutting back e.g. removing old leaves from the hellebores so the flowers can be seen, the died back catmint to expose the snowdrops in the Hollygon
• Annual maintenance of the espalier apple trees including retying the canes and the branches.  Also weeding and mulching.
• Removal of an old rose that was growing too close to two espalier apple trees.
• Seeds were planted in the remaining two section of the area in The Tasting Garden set aside for cornfield annuals
• Tidying up the plants for sale and potting up.
• Preparing for and leading the Dallas Road school winter visit. 
• The purple crocus tommasinianus had spread from the borders into grass areas of The Tasting Garden.  Many of the clumps were dug out and moved to the banking under the Copper Beech tree.  See slideshow below.
