Heritage Open Days 2023 – Creativity Unwrapped
Saturday 9 to Saturday 16 September 2023
This year’s theme for Heritage Open Days is “Creativity Unwrapped” and the Friends of the Storey Gardens (FOSG) volunteers will be hosting two events in the Storey Gardens.
One event is entitled “Gardens of Surprises” and the other is “Recreating The Tasting
Garden Artwork”
The Gardens of Surprises event celebrates the creativity of nature. The event includes a creativity trail developed by FOSG in collaboration with a nature and wellbeing group, The Bay – A Blueprint for Recovery. You can follow the trail by reading the information on boards around the gardens, scanning the QR codes on your phone or, if you cannot visit, follow the trail online by clicking here.
The Recreating The Tasting Garden Artwork event celebrates the replacement of the first two of the stolen fruit sculptures in The Tasting Garden. The new sculptures were replaced in March 2023 and are made of Portland stone located on new sandstone plinths.
Friends of the Storey Gardens volunteers will be in the Storey Gardens on Saturday 9 and Saturday 16 September 2023. We will be looking forward to welcoming you between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm on both Saturdays.
The apple and pear trees are full of fruit at the moment. There should be ripe pears and dessert apples to taste and cooking apples to take away to cook. Refreshments will be available in The Storey’s Printroom café.
On the first Saturday we will be joined by The Bay: A Blueprint for Recovery. The Bay is a free nature and Wellbeing Programme, offering people living in Morecambe Bay the opportunity to get outdoors and connect with nature via digital engagement, community events and a programme of tailored outdoor wellbeing sessions, which people can refer onto. To find out about the sessions run at the Storey Gardens and other events around Morecambe Bay, to learn about local wildlife and try some natural craft activities visit their website by clicking on the link on the right hand side of this page.
