Yellow Crocus Days 2022 Report

On Saturday 19th and 26th February 2022 the Friends of the Storey Gardens held their annual Yellow Crocus Day event.

The two Saturdays could not have been more different in terms of the weather.

Saturday 19th was the day after Storm Eunice hit Lancaster. The wind had eased but the weather was still appalling. There was rain, sleet and snow. In addition to our hardy volunteers we had about 20 visitors.

By the following Saturday the weather had improved considerably with bright sunshine. The visitor numbers reflected the better weather as we had over 90 visitors that day.

We were pleased that our visitors included Mrs Joyce Mace and her family. Joyce is the widow of Roger Mace.

The yellow crocus bulbs were donated to the Friends of the Storey Gardens by the late Councillor Roger Mace after he re-opened the Storey Gardens in March 2018 when he was Mayor of Lancaster.

The picture above, taken by Alan Sandham, shows Mrs Joyce Mace (far left) with son Jonathan and daughter Lizzy being shown around The Tasting Garden by Fiona Sturgess (far right) our Gardening Coordinator.

Below are some images from the two days.
